If you exported per my instructions, that means you have a Mechanical APDL inputfile which has a structural FE element defined in one of the first lines of it. When I read a .inp inputfile with mapdl.input( ), I get the mesh. But mapdl.mesh.node_components is null. If however, I use the ansys.mapdl.reader.Archive( ) function, I get the mesh along with node_components. Is this expected behavior? ANSYS is creating the geometry for use in Mechanical from the information in the NASTRAN inputfile. Finally, after manually creating a needed contact region, I was able to solve the modal analysis, demonstrating that further simulation can be performed in ANSYS Mechanical from this model which originally came from NASTRAN.
